Two main categories can be distinguished, the ceremonial lament and the so-called bocet. The ceremonial songs are solemnly performed by a group, according to a prescribed ceremony. The main sub-categories are the “dawn songs” and the “fir songs”, probably of the oldest layer of folk songs. Bocets are sung individually, usually by woman, at nearly every moment during the preparations of the funeral.
