Transilvania is an extended region North and West of the Carpathian Mountains. Within this region, many special sub-zones can be distinguished, which are sometimes considered to form folkloristic zones themselves.

Important dances and song rhythms are Ardeleana, Învârtita, Haţegana, Pe picior, De-alungu, Ceardaş and Fecioreşte. Influences of Hungarian and German styles are clear.
