The Danube and Olt rivers and the South of the Capathian Mountains border the folkloristic zone of Muntenia. As this is the region where Bucharest is situated, its folklore is most widely known and its music can be heard all over Romania.
Popular dances and song rhythms are Hora mare, Hora iute, Brâul mare, Brâuleţul, Ca la breaza, Geamparaua. In this region the doinas are accompanied by dance-like rhythms.
